For many people, this event is the highlight of the year. Summer County Cup, more affectionately known as "County Week" takes place at the end of July every year across multiple venues in the UK.
Every County competes in their group/division (dependant on the previous years results) at each venue. The event is an outdoor, doubles, grass-court event.
6 teams are in each division so that, during the (Monday to Friday) week, each team will get the chance to play each other. A team will consist of anything up to 10 players plus captain, but only 6 players will compete each day. 9 rubbers will make up one day, with 3 doubles pairs playing the opposing 3 doubles pairs for each County.
At the end of the 5 days, the team in top 2 positions will be promoted, the bottom 2 teams will be relegated, and the remaining teams will stay in the division. * In the top group, the event Champions are also decided.
The standard of tennis is impressive, especially in group 1 where you will find world class players making themselves available to represent their County. Group 1 is always held at Devonshire Park Tennis Centre in Eastbourne. The LTA webpage for this event is available if you click here
