The Herts Junior Championships
also affectionately known as the "Herts Closed"
SPONSORED BY ANGLO IRISH BANK
This event traditionally takes place during the final week of the 6-week school holiday - roughly the last week in August.
Its place in the calendar is fitting as, for most, it provides the culmination of 6 weeks of travelling across the Country and various tournament locations. Some will have played in the British National Championships, others may have stayed more local. Usually tanned, and armed with tales from the events of the past 6 weeks the players meet up and play their old friends, rivals, siblings then sit and enjoy the atmosphere in the majestic setting of Queenswood School.
On finals day, the Saturday, Herts LTA often host a bbq for all the families to return and watch the superb tennis performances. Some external Herts run events also hold their finals on this day, such as our TRS Green Grand Prix - so even the Champions of the future are included.
Entry forms for this year's event can be download from this website, or contact John Bruley on 01707 393372.
2008 again brought together nearly 250 of our junior players from across the county, which is fantastic to see. congratulations again this year to Harpenden for the largest number of players from their club. We saw some great tennis played in very good sunny weather throughout the week. Many thanks to the following, who made the event possible: John Bruley, Hannah Rawlins, Liz Needham and Queenswood School, Steve and his team of groundstaff, Sybil Howgego, Jennifer Keates, Craig Rees, Janet Corrie, Tina Morris, Jenny Thomas, the Herts LTA executives and the team based at the Herts LTA centre in Gosling, Tennis Parents and last but not least....the players. There was a great turnout on finals day (with the Masters of our TRS Green Grand Prix event also taking place that day) which proved for a great atmosphere. Prizes were presented by Jenny Marlow and Susan Brandon who have worked for the Herts LTA for many years. We hope to see even more of you play in the event in 2009.
